The Santa Cruz Hostel Society is always in search for volunteers who can commit a little time and compassion to serve travellers at the reception desk, help with improving or repairing facilities, contribute to social nights, or become a member of the several committees whose efforts run the hostel and make the Carmelita Cottages the traveler's haven that it is.
Here are examples of what you could be doing:
- Help Staff Our Front Desk: greet, orient, and register guests. Assign beds, sell memberships, interact with guests and meet world travelers!
- Join Our Public Relations Committee: staff our booth at community events and festivals
- Get Your Green Thumb Dirty: help restore and maintain the gardens surrounding our historic cottages on Beach Hill.
- Help plan a calendar of events and activities to introduce our international guests to life in Santa Cruz.
- Organize a "Concert in the Park"/Carmelita Coffee House with singing music, poetry reading, storytelling.
Please feel free to contact us at (831) 429-8541 or volunteer@hi-santacruz.org to joing our team of awesome volunteers.
We would love for you to join our team!
Our hostel, the historic Victorian cottages on Beach Hill known as the Carmelita Cottages, is still in the process of restoration. These buildings are part of a Santa Cruz City park and are being completely restored through the fundraising efforts of the volunteers of the Santa Cruz Hostel Society.
We are looking for another $300,000 in funding to complete the final (6th) building. Preserving the history of the Carmelita Cottages and improving the facilities for guests and staff is crucial and we need your help today!
Your donation will help us to:
- bring history to life in Santa Cruz
- improve the Beach Hill neighborhood
- provide affordable, safe, clean, and friendly international lodging for all people
- bring tourism to Santa Cruz and support to our local economy
- promote Santa Cruz to the World
- encourage international hospitality and promote acceptance of diversity
- promote education of the cultures and customs of the World
- create and continue a link in the California, USA, and Hostelling International system
- promote community partnerships (such as FreeSkool Santa Cruz, the Volunteer Center, and the City Parks system) in Santa Cruz
- restore a City Park that is open daily to all people of Santa Cruz
Please consider giving a donation of money and time to help us with this project.
